Katarina began ice-skating at age five. When her talent for skating was more evident her admission was granted at an Karl-Marx-Stadt school, which focuses on kids with a sporting ability. It was here that she got to know their coach Jutta Muller. Witt made her breakthrough in 1982, after she was second in the World Championships at Copenhagen. The grace and elegant style of Witt drew the attention of everyone and she has dominated her sport ever since.
